Carlin Dunne életét vesztette a Pikes Peak versenyen

Vasárnap délután Carlin Dunne amerikai motorversenyző a 97. Pikes Peak utcai versenyen halálos balesetet szenvedett. Dunne az egyik, ha nem a legjobb indulója volt a verseny motoros divíziójának. Elsőként kvalifikálta magát a héten a legnagyobb kategóriában. A Ducatinak tavaly elhozta a bajnoki címet, idén a még sehol nem futott Streetfighter V4 prototípusát bízták rá. Már az utolsó kanyart is maga mögött hagyta, a célegyenesben haladt, rekordidőn belül, amikor ráfutott egy bukkanóra, elveszítette uralmát a motor felett és leszaladt az útról.

„Kolorádó Spring közössége, a Pikes Peak vezetősége és az észak amerikai Ducati osztozik a család a barátok és a szurkolok fájdalmában és gyászában”  – szól a verseny hivatalos nyilatkozata – „A 97 év alatt amióta ezt a különleges versenyt rendezzük Amerika hegyeiben, megtapasztaltuk a győzelem végleges boldogságát, a kudarc keserűségét és most, a váratlan, szívet tépő fájdalmat, amit egy versenyző elvesztése okoz, akit a versenyzés iránti szeretete hozott a Pikes Peak-re. Gyászoljuk Carlin tragikus halálát és örökre a szívünkbe zárjuk, mint a Pikes Peak család része. Úgy fogunk rá emlékezni, mint egy meleg szívű mentorra igazi verseny szellemmel. Gyengéd és figyelmes ember volt, mindenkit megérintett a személyisége aki egyszer is találkozott vele. Mindig emlékezni fogunk a folyamatos mosolyára és a sport iránti valódi szeretetére”

Carlin motoros családba született, édesapja a Man TT-n is versenyzett. Ő volt a hetedik versenyző, aki életét vesztette a Pikes Peak versenyen, utoljára 2015-ben történt tragédia, akkor Carl Sorensen szenvedett halálos balesetet. Carlin Dunne 36 éves volt.

Throughout the 97 years that this unique race has been conducted on America's Mountain, we have experienced the ultimate joy in victory, the disappointment of failure and now, the unexpected heartbreak of the loss of a competitor, whose love of the race brought him to Pikes Peak. We mourn the tragic death of Carlin and he will remain in our hearts forever as part of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb family. Carlin will be remembered as a warm hearted mentor with a competitive spirit. He was a gentle and thoughtful man who touched everyone who met him. We will always remember his contagious smile and genuine love for sport. “There are no words to describe our shock and sadness. Carlin was part of our family and one of the most genuine and kind men we have ever known.
